What
is Pacific Rim Cusine? |
| |
Imagine holding a small globe in your hands. Turn it, spinning around the Equator. Look for the Pacific Islands sub-region known as Polynesia where you can find Tahiti, Bora Bora, and the Cook Islands ..tiny paradises in the middle of the South Pacific. These islands are just about as far from a continent as any place on Earth.
If you look at our World from this perspective – centered on Polynesia – and look upward or northward, you see almost nothing but ocean. Only the edges of continental mainlands frame this seemingly endless portrait of blue. Upon closer study, you will see the edges of Australia, Indonesia, China, Japan, the Pacific Northwest, California, Mexico and South America. These places, diverse geographically and culturally, rim the geographic feature known as the Ring of Fire where three-fourths of the World’s
active and dormant volcanoes lie.
It is the blending of flavors from the countries bordering
the Ring of Fire that creates the popular cuisine known
as Pacific Rim – where East meets West.
